The Land
Part of Landing is an ongoing practice of learning about the land that we’re living in relation with. For those of us who are settlers on this land, we are committed to the project of reconnecting with our own ancestral histories, stories and traditions, as well as the process of learning about those of this land and the people who have stewarded it for thousands of years. We believe all aspects of this work is vital for us to participate genuinely with Indigenous justice movements.
The following is an in-process, continual investigation into the history and stories of the land of the site of the festival, Zumwalt Acres, land that is a part of the unceded homelands of the Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Peoria, Kaskaskia, Bodéwadmiakiwen (Potawatomi), Myaamia, and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ peoples. Thank you to Forrest Bruce for their foundational work and guidance in this learning.
